About Tiffany

My educational philosophy is built on the belief that students learn best through meaningful, hands on experiences. I have taught for years in classrooms that provide opportunities for students to make choices and take ownership in their learning. I am constantly reminded about the truth behind this proverb: “Tell me, I forget. Show me, I remember. Involve me, I understand.” I am dedicated to fostering a cooperative, safe learning environment for children by implementing both Positive Discipline and collaborative problem solving strategies. I continue to see that educational settings work best when children are active participants in problem solving and feel a sense of belonging and significance. I strongly believe that EVERY child has a right to participate in progressive learning environments, which sadly are oftentimes overlooked for children in low income neighborhoods.
I started my teaching career teaching in New York City (Harlem & Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn) for three years. In conjunction with teaching K/1st grade students at the Emerson School in Portland, Oregon for 5 years, I was also the school’s Equity Coordinator. I worked with staff members, parents and board members specifically on the topic of equity. I met with parents and board members to engage in honest, meaningful, conversations about equity and social justice. Additionally, I prepared, implemented and facilitated ongoing equity training for the s entire staff. As a staff, we evaluated our personal racial identity journeys and explored equitable education goals. I have found placing a strong emphasis on dialogue, relationship building, and collaboration leads to the most productive breakthroughs. Education and equity are my passions. I currently teach 3rd grade in Portland Public Schools.
Outside of school, you'll find me on my yoga mat, biking around the PNW, and exploring delicious food in Portland with my husband and two little ones. Feel free to contact me with questions or thoughts.
